Dying Gaul Sculpture

Description

Oh this sculpture... Ugh.

View of the other side: [link]

I did not enjoy my figurative sculpture class to say the least, but this piece has grown on me. Sculpted from a nude model in clay (Texas redart?). The pose is based off of the famous Dying Gaul (google that shit). To give the sculpture a more interesting vibe, yet staying figurative, I added facets to the whole piece, giving the finished product a smooth texture. About 2 feet long and under a foot tall. I don't know the cone value (didn't have control of this firing), but I'd guess cone 6 electric in 'reduction' (really neutral). Loooong firing to avoid cracking.

Feel free to critique, but I don't think I'll be doing this again anytime soon. I'll add another photo angle into my scraps, if I can figure out how to do that again.

I cant believe this doesnt have any favs.

I am amazed by the size of the piece! The facets give it a nice texture, making the subject ambiguous. The communication between the torso and pelvis, from what I can see, is harmonious.

However I do feel that the gravity which the left arm is bearing could have been a bit more exaggerated.

better than i could have done :)
